Stacey Halprin survived an incredible weight loss journey. She has appeared on Oprah and the Morning Show w/ Mike and Juliet (FOX-TV), a number of radio shows, has been showcased in renowned magazines, and is now the author of the newly released book Winning After Losing.
Stacey spent most of her life eating and dieting. A lifetime of gaining and losing resulted in diabetes, high blood pressure and the inability to walk from the bedroom to the kitchen without stopping to catch her breath. On September 11th, 2001, at 550 lbs, Stacey’s life changed forever.
Less than a mile from ground zero, Stacey struggled to hoist her body out of bed and drag herself to a window where she watched the first tower crumble to the ground. The remainder of the day was a blur of activity, noise and panic. The only way for Stacey to get out of her apartment was by foot, but walking was not an option for her. Her car was her only means of transportation, and without it, she was homebound. At 550 lbs, she couldn’t even walk half a block to the closest store to buy food, let alone leave the area.
That’s when it struck her. It was time to face the overwhelming truth. If she wanted to continue living, it was time to change her life.
Today, at 190 lbs, she has her life back and her apartment is no longer her prison. Since 9/11 she has undergone a gastric bypass surgery, a 318 pound weight loss and 11 additional surgeries to help get her body back to normal and correct some of the damage caused by a lifetime of morbid obesity.
Even though I’ve lost hundreds of pounds, the hardest part wasn't losing the initial weight. The hardest part is keeping off the weight I’ve lost. Staying focused is the key!
People who go on diets or have had any kind of gastric bypass surgery need more than the average Joe. The problem is, we can't get all the right amounts of foods into our bodies on lower calorie diets and with gastric bypass surgery, we cannot possibly fit everything we need in our stomachs.
Since losing more than 300 pounds, it has been a battle for me to get all the nutrients I need. I have low iron levels; I’m often tired, and I’ve even lost some hair. I knew I wasn’t getting everything I needed to be healthy from my current diet. When I learned about Focus28, I went to their website and I could not believe the variety of products they had for people just like me. The very first thing I ordered was the Dutch Chocolate shake mix, and I was amazed at how full it made me feel and the amount of vitamins and protein that were packed into a single 8 oz serving.
The folks at Focus28 made it easy for me to maintain my weight. They sell quality products – everything from "soup to nuts", snacks and meal replacements. Sometimes we need a little extra help to take better care of ourselves. Focus28 and their Four Pillars of Bariatric Success have given me the extra support I need to help keep the weight off.
